SEPCOR Organophillic Clays
Realize Cost Savings and Improved Rheology
Products & Features
SEPCOR OPC
SEPCOR OPC is manufactured by specially treating clay with a modifying surfactant resulting in temperature-stable, oil-wettable organophilic clay. The product is designed to improve the rheology in oil-based and invert drilling fluid systems.
SEPCOR OPC organophilic clay is designed to impart gel-strength and suspend solids in fluids while the fluids are static and to impart cuttings-carrying capability to fluids when they are used in drilling operations.
TYPICAL APPLICATIONS
SEPCOR OPC is used for increasing gel strength in oils and oil-based and invert drilling fluids. SEPCOR OPC also improves downhole cleaning during drilling and workover operations . It is an an excellent product for oil muds to provide for long-term suspension of barite in packer fluids and casing packs.
SEPCOR OPC is recommended to be used in normal oil-mud and invert drilling programs at 2 to 12 pounds per barrel (typical 4 to 8 pounds) and functions well even at lower temperatures to impart gel strength to the slurry at a moderate rate of shear. required to give a particular system the properties should be determined by pilot testing. To control barite settling in active mud systems add SEPCOR OPC at one-fourth pound per barrel increments. Check the mud pits for settling 10 to 15 minutes after addition of the product and stop adding SEPCOR OPC as soon as the settling stops.
SEPCOR OPC performs as an excellent viscosifier and gelling agent in diesel and mineral oil systems. It functions very well in straight mineral oil systems that normally exhibit solubility problems. For difficult to treat mineral oil, SEPCOR OPC II and SEPCOR OPC III may be excellent alternatives.
